Today, Azerbaijan joins the global community in celebrating International Teachers’ Day, established by UNESCO in 1966 as a tribute to the vital role of educators and their contributions to society.

According to official data, there are currently around 300,000 teachers in Azerbaijan. To mark the occasion, İctimai TV, the country’s public broadcaster, has highlighted the participation of

teachers in the 44-day Patriotic War, which concluded with Azerbaijan’s victory. In total, 20 school principals, 32 deputy principals, and 671 teachers took part in the fighting, and 20 teachers were martyred during the conflict.

Between 2022 and 2025, a total of 84,000 teachers across Azerbaijan are expected to undergo professional certification. So far, 73,000 educators have successfully completed the process. Teachers who meet the passing threshold receive a 10% salary bonus, while those scoring 51 points or higher are awarded a 35% increase.

International Teachers’ Day serves as a reminder of the dedication, resilience, and lasting impact of educators who shape the nation’s future — both in the classroom and beyond.
